Oil Pickups
When rebuilding an engine or replacing an oil pump, replace your oil pickup with a new unit, of proper length and fitment for your oil pan. The oil pickup is a vital component of an engine’s lubrication system that draws oil from the oil pan sump and delivers it to the oil pump.
Replace your oil pickup to:
- Deliver a steady supply of clean oil to internal parts like bearings, pistons, and the valvetrain.
- Maintain flow during all driving conditions, such as heavy acceleration, braking, and cornering.
- Protect the pump and engine by filtering large debris that made its way into the pan.
Without a properly functioning pickup tube, an engine can quickly overheat and seize, leading to catastrophic failure.
Cleaning is often a viable first step for minor clogging; however, replacement is the safer and more cost-effective option compared to the potential for catastrophic engine damage.
When rebuilding an engine, we normally replace the pickup tube.
